This CD was my first venture into home recording with computers. I remember that I had bought the old PC from my buddy for $200 and really asked it to do way more than it probably should. Everytime I would export a track I would need to open up the side to blow a fan over a bowl of ice to keep it cool enough to finish the mix.
The diversity of styles on this CD is due to the amount of experimenting that I was doing with the recording of it. The words are all very personal to me which is nice and also a bit scary to have all of that out there for everyone to interpret.
There was a lot of ups and downs during the creation of this collection of songs, the worst of which is when I erased all of my raw files near the end of recording and needed to move ahead using only my latest mix down as a base. Everything besides the guitar solos and vocals were then set in stone. That was a cold sweat sort of moment when I had realized what I had done.
I had also never really sung before, but I didn't let that stop me. :) Some vocals sound much better than others to me, and I was happy to have Chris Tompkins handle the vocal duties on "He Would Dance".
